Gene Bierman and William Dreifurst — the “B” and “D” in BD Construction — founded the original firm in Columbus, Nebraska in 1960.
Nearly a quarter-century later, in 1983, they hired a knowledgeable and energetic young man named Mark Benjamin to open a satellite office in Kearney, with Bierman’s son, Douglas, from which to develop commercial accounts. Under Benjamin’s direction, BD/Kearney bloomed into a busy and successful enterprise, with construction projects throughout Nebraska and the surrounding states.
In 2002, Benjamin, along with longtime colleagues Douglas Bierman, Dennis Neemeyer and Jim Hoppenstedt, bought the firm from the original owners and opened a satellite office in North Platte, Nebraska to service clients in western Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.
Today, BD Construction is one of Nebraska’s leading design-build contractors, with eight field crews working on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, public and agricultural projects throughout the midwest.
