BD Construction Inc., of Kearney, Neb., one of the Midwest's leading construction companies, is beginning to renovate the HVAC system in the Harlan County Health System hospital and update private patient rooms.
Built in 1969, the hospital in Alma, Neb., added a new section in 2009 and remodeled the radiology center in 2010.
"Now we need to address the original section," said Jeff Shelton, Harlan County Health System chief executive officer. "We are striving to make our patients' stay more comfortable and ensure that they are receiving quality care in a safe environment."
BD Construction is replacing the obsolete technology in the patient care wing with a new HVAC system that will allow patients to individually control the environmental temperature within their rooms. In addition, BD Construction is updating private patient rooms and replacing windows, doors, drywall, the ceiling and flooring. The project is expected to be finished in April 2012.
"This 19,000 square-foot renovation project at Harlan County Health System will make the patients feel more comfortable while giving them privacy and the ability to control their environment," stated Mark Benjamin, president and CEO of BD Construction.
Harlan County Health System was able to move forward with the renovation with a low-interest $860,000 loan through the Nebraska Dollar and Energy Savings Loan Program. The program is offered statewide for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
