RESTAURANTS, BANKS, CLINICS AND MORE ARE PART OF BD CONSTRUCTION’S 25-YEAR LEGACY IN KEARNEY
Released On: September 4, 2008
“Buzz’s Marine got us started – that was our first
significant project,” said BD Construction CEO Mark Benjamin. “But when you look at what
we’ve accomplished, at the number of projects we’ve had a hand in, you realize that we’ve
played a fairly significant role in building Kearney over the last 25 years.”
Benjamin was reminiscing about his company’s Kearney-area projects as BD plans its
25th Anniversary celebration in September. BD Construction is one of Nebraska’s leading
design-build contractors, with eight field crews working on a wide variety of large-scale
commercial, industrial, public and agricultural projects throughout the Midwest.
“We built Slumberland Furniture, the Highland Professional Center, Five Points Bank,
the Arby’s north and the new Culver’s,” Benjamin says, ticking the projects off on his fingers.
“We’ve done a lot of work in healthcare facilities – if you’ve ever been in the Cancer Center,
Healthy Living or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and OB department at Good Samaritan
Hospital, you’ve seen our work. We also built the Ambulatory Surgery Center, Meadowlark
Dental, the Cottonwood Vet Clinic, the Plains Heart Institute and Cath Lab and Central Plains
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A medical project we just finished is the new VA Clinic in
Holdrege. And that’s just a few of them.”
Benjamin said that BD Construction has built projects across the region over the last 25
years. Although the original firm was founded in Columbus in 1960, Benjamin said they are
celebrating the start of the Kearney operation in 1983.
In 2002, Benjamin, along with longtime colleagues Douglas Bierman, Dennis Neemeyer
and Jim Hoppenstedt, bought the firm from the original owners and opened a satellite office in
North Platte to service clients in Western Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.
“Having so much of our work here – buildings we pass or visit every day – makes us feel
very much a part of Kearney,” Benjamin said. “This is where we have our roots; this is where
our heart is.”
BD Construction’s 25th Anniversary celebration will take place September 20 from 4:00 -
8:00 pm at BD. For more information, contact BD at 308.234.1836 or visit them online at
