BD Construction Employees Obtain LEED Certification
Released On: October 26, 2010

BD Construction of Kearney, Nebraska, one of the Midwest's leading construction companies, is pleased to announce that two of its current employees, Andy Bartling and Austin Larson, have received a designation of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate certification, enabling BD Construction to participate in LEED-qualifying projects.

The LEED program focuses on building sustainability and green building techniques. Professionals with LEED Green Associate credentials denote basic knowledge of green building principles and practices and exemplify who supports green building design, construction and operations. LEED certification will allow BD Construction to now bid on projects that require a member of the company to be LEED certified. LEED professionals show differentiation in a growing and competitive industry, and allow for varied levels of specialization.

“Having Andy and Austin attain this certification really opens the door for us to participate in projects that utilize stimulus funds and federal government projects,” stated BD Construction President Mark Benjamin. “In the future, more projects will require LEED certification. Acquiring this now ultimately allows us to place bids on many more projects.”

Bartling, project manager, and Larson, pre-construction services/estimator, completed intensive coursework, classes and a test to qualify for the certification. To maintain their credibility, they must partake in continuing education classes. Therefore, a LEED professional credential provides employers, policymakers and other stakeholders with assurances of an individual's level of competence, and is the mark of the most qualified, educated and influential green building professionals in the marketplace.

“We are pleased with the desire and determination of these two in furthering their knowledge and understanding of the industry in completing this certification,” Benjamin said. “Having the LEED certification will certainly benefit the company as a whole.”
