BD Construction Wins AGC Build Nebraska Award

Released On: November 17, 2011

BD Construction Inc., of Kearney, Nebraska, one of the Midwest's leading construction companies, received an Associated General Contractors (AGC) Build Nebraska for its work on The Prairie Club Lodge and Cabins.

The AGC Build Nebraska awards were judged by a panel of construction experts across the country on the scope of the project, obstacles that were overcome during construction, excellence in project management, client service and contributions to the community.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from our peers," stated Mark Benjamin, president and CEO of BD Construction. "The Prairie Club lodge and cabins were a pleasure to construct. It's a beautiful facility that complements its surroundings and enhances the overall golfing experience."

The Prairie Club, located near Valentine, Nebraska, consists of two championship-length, eighteen-hole golf courses—the Pines, designed by Graham Marsh; and the Dunes, designed by Tom Lehman—and one par-three, ten-hole course—the Horse, designed by Gil Hanse. BD Construction constructed the 26-room lodge and four private cabins sitting just yards away from the edge of the Snake River.

"Meeting all the design criteria while maintaining an established budget is difficult, but it's especially challenging on a remote site with minimal outside resources available," Benjamin said. "We helped the owner solve infrastructure issues, worked with the Nebraska Department of Roads to build access to the site and maintained strict control of the budget while making alterations and additions."

In addition, BD Construction worked with the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to develop a plan to protect the habitat of the endangered American Burying Beetle and disturb as little of the natural terrain as possible during construction.

BD Construction worked with The Prairie Club Founder and President Paul Schock to construct the lodge and four cabins located on the rim of the Snake River below the lodge. The 40,000-square-foot lodge includes a restaurant and lounge, locker room, golf shop, conference room, golf cart storage and lodging.

Each cabin replicates the same unique design as the club's lodge—aesthetically designed architecture to fit the environmental and geographical elements of the area. The cabins include bedrooms, a living room and a porch for enjoying the incredible views.
