BD Construction was Jim Hoppenstedt’s first job after graduating from high school in Columbus in 1978. Although he began work as a carpenter, within a few years he had also gained significant experience in concrete and in the erection of prefabricated steel buildings.

In 1983, Jim was promoted to construction foreman. In 2000, he became a shareholder in the firm, and in 2002 was named vice president and tapped to run the new BD office in North Platte. In 2004, he returned to BD’s main office in Kearney. As project manager, Jim oversees all aspects of complex, multi-million dollar projects, including procurement, scheduling and supervision of employees and subcontractors. Jim is also a member of the Association of General Contractors of America Nebraska Building Chapter Program Planning committee.
