In 1983, when Mark Benjamin interviewed with BD, he made it clear his goal was to own the company. Mark had just graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from Kearney State College (now UNK), but his drive and ambition convinced founders Gene Bierman and Bill Dreifurst to give him a chance in the new sales office they were opening in Kearney.

Their decision paid off. In 1987, just four years later, Benjamin was named BD’s general manager and in 2001, he became the majority shareholder, president and CEO. During his 26 year tenure, Benjamin has led BD through a number of notable construction projects, including banks, schools, healthcare facilities and large retail stores.

Active in the community, Benjamin is past president of the Nebraska Associated General Contractors/Building Chapter and serves on the UNK Construction Management Advisory Council and Southeast Community College Building Construction Technology Advisory Council. He also serves as chairman for both the Nebraska Associated General Contractors / Building Chapter - Legislative Committee and Nebraska Construction Industry Political Action Committee.
