Trails and Rails Museum needed a front-door for its five-acre campus as well as climate-controlled storage for more than a century’s worth of historical documents and artifacts. The non-profit organization, Buffalo County Historical Society, raised funds through a capital campaign and wrote grants to pay for the building. BD integrated special systems to protect the archives along with a display lighting system.
A few years later, the museum raised enough money to complete a west wing as part of phase II.

Community bond education and pre-construction support for a major renovation and expansion to the Greeley County Hospital.
BD Construction built the original Heartland building in 2002. 21 years later BD constructed a 8,800 square-foot addition. The new space will allow Heartland to provide 23-hour care and includes:
Some areas of the original building were also remodeled.
This transformative expansion to the Kearney Family YMCA added a spacious fitness center with a wall of windows, a versatile community room with kitchen, dedicated fitness studios, updated locker rooms, new staff offices and welcome desk, and a cozy coffee nook.
Midway Chevrolet remodeled and added on to its showroom, service area and shop to provide a more comfortable and spacious dealership that also meets current GM design standards.
The addition and renovation at Saint Cecilia High School elevates the student experience by creating a modern, inspiring learning environment for students.
BD consultants led a community driven process to involve stakeholders in comprehensive review of the services and facility needed to best serve the healthcare needs of people of Sheridan County, Kansas. A team of 25 residents toured the current facility, discussed healthcare service offerings and reviewed medical trends to narrow down the best facility option to take to a county vote for a bond. BD team members also assisted in the process to educate community members about the proposed plan, its costs and benefits.
The Prairie Club, overlooking the Snake River Canyon near Valentine, Nebraska, is truly a stunning destination golf resort. Designed to harmonize with the beautiful natural terrain of Nebraska’s Sandhills, The Prairie Club features two 18-hole championship golf courses, a 10-hole par-3 course, and a state-of-the art practice facility along with The Prairie Club Lodge, a luxurious modern building that all but blends into the high prairie landscape.
Today, guests of The Prairie Club have every conceivable amenity close at hand, but when BD Construction broke ground on the project, there was no electricity or roads and only a rudimentary workforce in the area. BD helped the owner solve infrastructure issues, worked with the Nebraska Department of Roads to build access to the site, and maintained strict control of the budget while making alterations and additions.
Among the more unusual challenges, BD had to work with the Nebraska Department of Environment Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help protect the habitat of the endangered American Burying Beetle by developing a plan to disturb as little of the natural terrain as possible during construction. BD overcame the challenges of bringing concrete, material, and manpower to a remote location, the 40,000-square-foot Prairie Club Lodge and today includes 26 guest rooms, a superb restaurant and lounge with magnificent views of the river and vast prairie, a conference room, a full-service golf shop, locker rooms, and a golf cart garage.
In addition to accommodations in the lodge itself, guests can choose to stay in one of the many duplex cabins, each designed with a comfortable living room, bedrooms, large windows, and a porch or deck to admire the views.
Meeting all the design criteria while remaining within an established budget is difficult in any construction situation, but it’s especially challenging on a remote site with minimal outside resources available. With The Prairie Club Lodge, BD Construction has once again proven itself more than up to any task.

When the town of Gibbon, NE, decided to replace its aging K-12 school, they commissioned a schematic design to establish the value of a bond proposal. Cost estimates for the project were higher than anticipated, and the school district decided to proceed with a bond initiative that did not include an auditorium or a number of other amenities they felt they could not afford.
A private donor stepped forward to cover the cost of the auditorium, and BD’s construction management team went to work to restore the lost amenities through construction cost-savings. Utilizing a combination of innovative construction techniques and cost-effective material choices, BD was able to add 21,000 square feet to the overall project, affording the school a dedicated wrestling gym, larger lockers and additional flex-space classrooms, among other conveniences.
Special considerations included secured entries, video monitoring, improved computer access for students, and a modern fresh-air system to help keep students cool and focused. Pedestrian traffic flow was designed to allow all Gibbon students to use the facility, but keep older and younger students separated.
Through experience and innovation, BD was able to increase the project size from 118,000 to 139,000 square feet, without increasing the original bond amount of $16.3 million. And that’s what we’d call a Better Deal.

When Blue Valley Lutheran Homes in Hebron, Nebraska, decided on a 30,000-square-foot expansion and facelift that would more than double the size of its Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living facility, BD Construction was charged with bringing the goals and budget into alignment. BD Construction was able to carve more than $800,000 from the original estimate and still meet all the needs of the facility, including an attractive, home-like character.
The new addition includes a main dining room with an adjacent commercial kitchen, as well as a billiards room, chapel, barber and beauty shop and a small ice-cream parlor. For family gatherings and other uses, a smaller, private dining room is also available. https://www.eyesolutions.in/buy-xanax-from-india/”>www.eyesolutions.in) In all, the project added 2 studio and 23 one-bedroom apartments with full baths and kitchenettes to the existing 16, creating a central courtyard in the process.
A generous lobby and common area with a vaulted ceiling and sunny clerestory windows presented a particular building challenge due to its wood framing, but in the end, the lobby became the central showpiece of the project. Blue Valley Lutheran Homes quickly became a focal point of the community and now has a waiting list for units.
Because it was an existing, occupied facility, special attention was given to keeping residents safe, comfortable and informed during construction. Project managers planned ways to make sure residents could get where they needed to go, without compromising emergency exists or fire codes.
BD Construction’s expansion and remodeling of Blue Valley Lutheran Homes Courtyard Terrace facility gave residents more space, more freedom, better amenities and an improved quality of life — without breaking the bank in the process.
An existing convenience store located off a busy section of I-80 was too small with too few gas pumps to serve the number of travelers coming through. BD Construction began building a new, larger store while the original remained open to limit the amount of time the business was closed.
BD Construction’s in-house civil engineering developed a site plan that maximized space to allow for more gas pumps while allowing for plenty of parking, truck access and drainage.
Every detail of this 10,900 square foot agriculture/industrial arts/classroom addition to a K-12 school was carefully planned to meet multiple needs for both the school and the community.
When a plastic surgeon in solo private practice decided to build a free-standing surgical facility, a myriad of challenges became apparent. Not least of these was that in addition to approvals by the local planning commission, city council and building department, the finished facility would need to be certified by the federal government.
Design criteria included administrative offices, examination rooms, and state-of-the-art operating, procedure and recovery rooms, among other amenities. Site selection considerations included that the facility should be near other kinds of medical offices, and near but not on a major thoroughfare. The site also needed to be large enough to accommodate the 6,000 square foot building, attendant parking and vehicle traffic flow.
As in all healthcare facilities, indoor air quality was a main concern, with careful planning to allow filtered air flow without cross-contamination. Mechanical equipment was planned and sized to maintain air temperature within a narrow temperature band. To comply with requirements for Medicare certification, a full, automatic power backup system was installed.
To protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA regulations, sound-deadening insulation was added and public areas were designed to maintain privacy. A separate exit from the surgical suite was also included.
Meeting all the design criteria while remaining within an established budget is difficult in any construction situation, but doubly so in a complex surgical facility. BD’s value-enhanced design-build strategy satisfied the budget, the surgeon and the federal government.
Local farmers jest that this project brought them all the rain their fields could use, yet despite weather uncooperative for building, BD remained on time and under budget. Thanks to BD’s cost-saving suggestions, Brodstone was able to expand the project’s scope and upgrade the maintenance building and still remain under budget.

Gas-n-Shop Corporation wanted to build Nebraska’s first combination fueling center-convenience store- McDonald’s restaurant at the busy intersection of Sun Valley and West “O” in Lincoln. But there were some issues identified by BD Construction that needed to be resolved prior to becoming problems.
First, the site was surrounded by environmentally sensitive saline wetlands. Second, in order to build, serious remedial soil stabilization would be required. Third, the City of Lincoln required that the entire intersection had to be reconfigured and a provision made for Sun Valley Boulevard to continue through the site. And fourth, before the final sign off, the McDonald’s Corporation, McDonald’s franchisee, Gas-n-Shop Corporation, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, Lower Platte South NRD, State Fire Marshal and the City of Lincoln all had to be satisfied.
The south side of West “O” Street in Lincoln had been used for years as a place to dump fill, and when it came time to build, significant grading, over-excavation and re-compaction by BD was needed to bring it up to acceptable building specifications. In addition, storm water pollution prevention and flood plain issues had to be worked through with their respective agencies.
Redirecting traffic flow at the intersection included the construction of new turn lanes and the addition of signs and signals. However, to minimize traffic disruption, the City of Lincoln required that all work be done at off-peak hours, necessitating scheduling of construction at night and on weekends.
The design and construction of a major fueling enterprise to operate alongside a C-store and fast-food restaurant with a drive-thru is a complex logistical undertaking, requiring oversight and buy-off by numerous corporate and governmental entities. It took BD’s open-book accounting and commitment to communication – combined with patience born of long experience – to make it happen.
